Are you trying to choose between two options? A guided exercise to move past the ego & make a decision! (Decision-making Part 2)
Are you trying to weigh up and choose between two options? I get into conversations with so many people who tell me they cannot decide between two options - two jobs, two homes, two partners! It happens to me too.
Last week I shared with you what is going on unconsciously when we are trying to make a decision, and how you can begin to create conscious decisions. But it takes time and can be hard to do alone!
So, this week am going to share a quick exercise to help you clarify and tap into deeper wisdom if you are currently having a tough time making a decision. It is a way to trick the ego so that we move past the ego’s defences - all the rationalising behaviours that keep you stuck in decision paralysis and have you ultimately choosing the safest decision (as outlined in last week’s post).
If you want to change your life you want to learn how to make intuitive decisions - decisions that come from a different place beyond the ego.
So I hope this exercise will begin to help you to do that.
Transcript of Exercise: (audio of this exercise is posted above if you would like to be guided through it)
Close your eyes. And imagine 2 doors. Door number 1 on your left is decision number 1. Door number 2 on your right is decision number 2.
Now, walk through both doors. And imagine, when you walk through door number 1 - what would it be like if you had made this decision number 1?
Then, walk back out, clear your mind. And then walk into door number 2 - visualise if you stepped through that door what would it feel like. And you’re kind of getting a sense of which way you should go. Perhaps one door feels warm and the other cold.
Now, you’re going to have some experiences, maybe a symbol, or something that will show up that will give you more information. As if you’re stepping into the future and trying out each decision.
Now let’s say you go through both doors and there is some good stuff that you imagine in both doors and you still cannot decide. The second step would be to close your eyes, when you face the doors, imagine that you shut down or even turn around in your visualization and then turn back facing the doors and just in an instant - which door opens first. Whichever door opens first, just follow that.
This may feel too good to be true - as though you cannot simply trust this process or trust your intuitive sense. If that is the case for you, next week I am going to explore how to let go of “bad” decisions or the guilt that comes with that sense that you made a mistake or the wrong decision.
